Following a disqualification on Saturday, and some apparent confusion concerning the new rules, the Committee would like to clarify the situation regarding stroke and distance penalty for a Lost Ball or a Ball Out of Bounds.
This is covered under Rule 18.2 (found on page 111-112 of the new Players Edition of the Rules of Golf, or click here to view the rule on the R&A website).
18.2 Ball Lost or Out of Bounds: Stroke-and-Distance Relief Must Be Taken
What to Do When Your Ball Is Lost or Out of Bounds
If your ball is lost or out of bounds, you must take stroke-and-distance relief by adding one penalty stroke and playing a ball from where the previous stroke was made (see Rule 14.6).
The (so called) 'Irish Drop' relief for a ball Lost or Out of Bounds is NOT INCLUDED in the new Rules of Golf, and the Growling Frog Golf Club HAS NOT adopted a Local Rule of this nature.
Players should play a Provisional Ball if they think their ball may be Lost or Out of Bounds.
Members are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new Rules, and to consult the Rule Book if they are unsure when taking Relief under the rules.
If anyone has any questions, please add them into the Comments, or talk to a member of the Committee.
