New Local Rule from Sat 4 Mar - Accidental Movement of a Ball on the Green

23/2/2017

The Committee has agreed to add a new Local Rule which has been adopted for virtually every significant event around the world.

To allow time for communication of this change it will come into effect on Saturday 4 March 2017.

  • When a player’s ball is at rest on (or has been lifted from) the putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball-marker is accidentally moved by the player, partner, opponent, or any of their caddies or equipment. The moved ball or ball-marker must be replaced. (Note: If the ball was moved as a result of wind, water or some other natural cause such as the effects of gravity, the ball must be played as it lies from its new location with no penalty.)

Please see the poster below for further information about this rule. There is also a Q&A page about this rule on the Golf Australia website - click here.

Please speak to your playing partners to ensure that everyone is aware of this new rule.
