Scratch Team
Round 2 saw the Scratch team take on VGL Division 1 stalwarts Centenary Park at the Growling Frog in atrocious weather conditions.
After a rain delayed start, Aaron Nolan and Simon Stoker led the boys off. Aaron had a great win 4 & 3, while Simon came up against solid opposition but unfortunately went down 5 & 3. Wayde Barling fought hard but lost 3 & 2 while Damien Blythe evened the score with a great 3 & 1 victory. Warren Hanna also came up against strong opposition and lost 5 & 4, while Luke Audley put on a birdie display - under par in five of the 14 holes he played in his convincing 5 & 4 victory.
With two matches left on the course, and the score even at 3-3, the weather took another turn for the worse. In a solid display of clutch putting Aaron Delia won 2 & 1 leaving Josh Evers to get the boys over the line. After being well ahead early, a great fightback from his opponent saw the match come to the second last hole. Looking like a drowned rat, Josh parred to half and go one up down the last. After driving down the middle of the fairway he proceeded to hit a fantastic approach to 5 feet and the match was won, 2 up.
A fantastic home win 5 – 3, continuing the great start to the season. Thanks very much to Ken Barbuto, Trevor Skeoch, Pam Davey and Clare Lewin for their support out on the course and with the aftermatch BBQ, much appreciated.
Next week there is a bye for Easter, but the following week is another tough home match against the defending Champions from the previous 7 years, Lakeside. Look forward to seeing as many members as possible down to support the boys.
Handicap Team
The weather forecast for the Handicap team round 2 match at Dorset Golf Course was described by one of the players as 'biblical' - 95% chance of heavy rain, with thunderstorms & hail!
he team pulled on wet weather gear and managed to endure half a round of cold wet and windy whether, but then things got even worse. Torrential rain, hail and lightning made the course unsafe and unplayable, so play was abandoned.
In the event of an abandoned contest, each team is awarded 2 premiership points and seven match points.
With next weekend being Easter, the next pennant match will be on Sunday the 23rd of April at Northcote.
